Nicolas Genest was born in 1964 in Chateauroux.
Comissioned by Radio France to write 5 musical pieces for the "Alla Breve" serie in 1999.
"Victoire de la musique" 1999, with the "City boom boom" album of the Julien Lourau Groove Gang.
"Django dor" 1996, best 1st recording with the Julien Lourau "Groove Gang". Nominated at the "Django dor" 1995, best 1st recording Nicolas Genest Quartet "Amazonia". He won the 1st soloist prize at the International Contest of «Jazz à la Defense" 1993.
Attracted by Indian music for a long time, it is around 1992 that he began to study it with S. Lecerf (Carnatic flute), then with Shaymal Maïtra (tablas).
Arriving in 1986 in Paris, he started very soon to play with numerous musicians, including R. Urtreger, P. Michelot, A. Jean-Marie, A. Hervé, J. F. Jenny-Clarck, D. Lockwood, G. Ferris, A. Ceccarelli, H. Texier, D. Humair, Y. Robert, A. Romano, R. Galliano, B. Altschul; and in big bands like "Lumière", "Quoi de Neuf", "Paris Jazz Orchestra", "F.Laudet big-band".
Many studio recordings: movie soundtracks (Henri Texier), Publicity (Chanel).
He also performed in various musical contexts, African, Brazilian, Cuban, and Funk that had him tour in Europe, Japan, Africa, Canada, USA, and Middle East.
He worked on harmony and composition with J Clayton, B Maury; The trumpet with R. Pichaureau, Art Farmer, W. Marsalis, T. Blanchard.
He began music with blues harmonica in 1980, then with the trumpet which he studied at the Academy of music of Chateauroux from 1982 to 1984.
