Sylvie Lecerf was born in Paris in 1954 in a musicial family. She studied classical flute for several years the at the Academy of music of Saint-Maur. In 1977, she met the Great Master of mûrali flute Sri N. Ramani of Madras (India). In 1978 she decided to go there and study the classical music of south India, known as carnatic music. Since then, she goes back to Madras 6 months of every year to deepen her musical knowledge with Sri N. Ramani and to perform with such musicians as C. N. Chandra Shekar, V Ramaiah, a disciple of Sri Karaikudi Mani (mridangam). She obtained a grant in 1983 from the Ministry of foreign relations and Iccr, the embassy of India. Sylvie Lecerf gives concerts in India and Europe, and also teaches carnatic music. |
