Michel Guay was born in 1961 in Halifax (Canada). He began with classical guitar studies at the Academy of music of Quebec from 1971 to 1978, then switched to indian music since 1981. He followed the courses of Banaras Hindu University of Varanasi (India), where he was a student of Pt. Dr. Ramdass Chakravarty from 1981 to 1987. He obtained there a sitar diploma in 1984, then became Bachelor of Music in 1987. He next decided to work with Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan in calcutta from 1987 to 1989, and with B.V. Patekar (Khyal Singer) in Bombay from 1989 to 1991; he obtained Masters Degree with Shastri grant. On his return in Europe, he remained in Denmark where he taught sitar at the "lotus Klampenborg center» from 1988 to 1989; then settled in Sweden from 1991 to 1998 where he taught classical guitar at the "Kommunala Musik Skola", and the "Museeförvaltningen bibliotek" of Karlshamn; He goes back regularly to India since 1988.
